The International Fan Film Awards was founded by Eugene Cordell in 2014. The awards ceremony is presented by the Azure Lorica Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)3 arts charity organization. Fan Films were showcased in a program on, delivering several films in homage or in parody of an original story or theme. The lack of fan film oriented award ceremonies encouraged the Azure Lorica Foundation to create a venue for these independent production groups, beginning with Ninja-Con, a small independent anime convention, founded on 2013.

Fan Film Awards calls for independent film productions, that reference to all forms of media entertainment, particularly original or popular stories in books, TV, film, games, and other.
